Pinery Fire 'Burnt Earth'
2015- Roadside foraging from the Pinery Fire ground two months on, December 15th 2015 photographed in the natural Summer light.
Winner of the Best Photography Exhibit Kidman Art Show in 2017.
"In late November 2015 our region felt the ripples of one of the worst bush fires in known local history. This catastrophic fire described as a 'fireball' claimed 2 lives, 91 homes, 388 non residential structures, 93 pieces of farming machinery, tens of thousands of animals and livestock burnt more than 82,600 hectares of land within a couple of days, claiming $40million worth of fodder and unharvested grains. An event never to be forgotten by so many for so many reasons. For me and my family we count our blessings every day as we overlook the surrounding hills and cropping land that recovered from the fire impact. The fire edge came within two kilometres of our home and property. I drove the roads at the fire edge many weeks after the event and couldn't take in the devastation, I shook the entire time collecting burnt elements from the roadside and especially when placing the Mandala. The elements felt different to what i had known of my practice before, they felt full with 'experience' and they had a different sound when picking them up and moving them around. They were petrified. This was the last Mandala I made for 2015".
