"Created in early Autumn, this Mandala honours the humble and prolific Barossa Fig season, and in 2017 the season was long and strong, and absolutely wonderful!
It was a 35 degree day when I made this piece outside on my verandah in the shade. It took only minutes for the ants to join me and have their own way with the sweet figs, one little fellow can still be spotted in this image.
Built from various elements from a wild fig in my parents garden down the road, as well as fruit from our Genoa fig tree next to our mandala veggie patch at home; Yes, we have a mandala shaped veggie patch!
This piece is a wonderful representation of how my work comes together spontaneously within the natural elements of the moment. Working in this way, rather than a planned, clinical studio environment, allows the natural imperfection of life's moments to shine through and become a part of the honesty of the work. Each little bend, scratch and misshapen leaf, reveals little snippets of wisdom, just as they are".
